The incredible cliffs & rocks in Lagos, Portugal

Lagos is known for its coastline of dramatic cliffs, red and yellow limestone stacks and Atlantic beaches. We spent one day hiking along a section near our apartment and I'm not sure how many times we said wow! The weather has just been perfect with mid 70's, sun and little wind so we've had fun getting outside every day so far.

We walked through town to our starting point and of course I couldn't stop taking pictures because I'm fascinated by the various things they've done with colored cobblestone. They create edges of different color, patterns, and artwork on the ground all over town even on the sides of the small roads they've paved in the middle. Everywhere you go there are different patterns and images. It's like walking on art! I also love the architecture, tile and colors on all the buildings in the Old Town and find myself constantly stopping to take it in. We met some very friendly guys who were working in the building near the super cool cobblestone Octopus which they said was named Fred.

We ended up hiking about 2.5 miles as we wandered along the cliffs and passed several praias (beaches). There are plenty of places to enjoy the views along this route as well as staircases to get down to the beach. We ended up at Praia do Camilo where we stopped to enjoy a yummy lunch (the pistachio butter was so good) before turning around. The colors of the rocks, blooming wildflowers, cliffs and water together are truly stunning.

The next day we decided to get a different perspective of this same stretch by getting on the water so we joined a 2 1/2 hour kayak tour with EZRide. It was about $34 each and we absolutely loved it! At the end we hung out on a small little beach only accessible via water and then hooked up behind a boat and got towed back (which was super cool and saved us from going against the wind on the return). Our guide, Miguel, took us through amazing caves and pointed out interesting things as we paddled along the beautiful rock formations. It was so fun to see it from this view as well as on our hike from above! Even though there were 10 of us in our tour (as well as other tour companies on the water) it was still very enjoyable. It's hard to capture the variations of the water color. Depending on the light, and if you're inside a cave, it's anywhere from emerald green to turquoise and truly astonishing.

Here's a few short videos as we navigated some of the arches and caves.
